July 30, 2019

U.S. News & World Report released its 2019-20 Best Hospitals rankings on June 30. For the ninth consecutive year, the cancer program at The University of Kansas Hospital is one of the nation’s best.

U.S. News evaluates hospitals on a series of a data-driven analysis of performance measures, including patient outcomes, nursing quality and the range of programs offered in any one specialty. These rankings were created to help patients with the most complex conditions find the most advanced care.

U.S. News evaluated 4,600 hospitals this year, and only 165 hospitals ranked nationally in one or more specialties.

Eight specialties at The University of Kansas Hospital were nationally ranked, including Cancer (#47), which made the top 50 for the ninth time. It is the only cancer program in the region to be recognized. You can read about the hospital’s other nationally ranked specialties here.

In addition, for the 10th consecutive year, The University of Kansas Hospital is the “Best Hospital in Kansas City” according to U.S. News & World Report. It is also the “Best Hospital in Kansas” for the eighth time. It is the only hospital to ever receive these honors.

“Being recognized year after year by U.S. News as the best hospital in our city, state and region is validation of our ability to provide outstanding care for our patients,” said Tammy Peterman, MS, RN, FAAN, president, Kansas City Division, and executive vice president, chief operating officer and chief nursing officer of The University of Kansas Health System. “Most importantly, these rankings are another reason patients and families can trust The University of Kansas Health System for the very best care.”
