Before an audience of colleagues, family and friends, Joseph McGuirk, DO, medical director of the blood and marrow transplant program at The University of Kansas Cancer Center, will be formally invested this evening as the Schutte/Speas Professor of Hematology/Oncology. The professorship is an appointed position by Roy Jensen, MD, director of The University of Kansas Cancer Center.
The Schutte/Speas Professorship of Hematology/Oncology was established by the trustees of the Victor E. and Caroline E. Schutte Foundation and the John W. and Effie E. Speas Memorial Trust. Professorships have been crucial in The University of Kansas Cancer Center's successful quest for National Cancer Institute (NCI) designation. Moreover, professorships will be important in helping The University of Kansas Cancer Center achieve the next level of recognition: Comprehensive Cancer Center designation.
