Why choose The University of Kansas Cancer Center?
- We have the region’s largest and most experienced blood and marrow transplant and immunotherapy treatment program. Our blood cancer care team has treated more than 5,300 patients with blood and marrow transplants and immunotherapies.
- As a National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center, we provide the latest and most innovative treatments for patients. Patients have access to treatments here that are not available anywhere else in the region – treatments that often include the opportunity to participate in clinical trials. These include exciting developments in precision cancer therapies and immunotherapies. Studies show that patients who are treated at an NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center experience 25% better outcomes than those treated at other centers.
- We were the region’s first program to be accredited by the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy.
- We offer all FDA-approved immunotherapy treatments and are leading the way in treating cancer with gene therapies. We were the first in the world to use bispecific antibodies to treat lymphoma.
- Three floors in Cambridge A hospital tower on our campus in Kansas City are dedicated to treating blood cancer patients, including those with leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma, myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), as well as those with nonmalignant blood disorders. These floors include unique features that are specifically designed to benefit these patients and are not found elsewhere in the region.
- We offer the complete care team patients need to navigate a cancer diagnosis and treatment. Our physicians are among the nation’s best and most experienced, and their work is complemented by that of specialty-trained nurses, pharmacists, dietitians, financial counselors. This focused and compassionate team is entirely dedicated to the physical, mental and emotional needs of our patients and their caregivers.
- Each of our clinical teams is subspecialized in a specific blood cancer or disorder. Our leukemia team treats only leukemia patients. The same is true for other blood cancers and disorders, including multiple myeloma, lymphoma, MDS and sickle cell disease.
- Our team understands the unique needs of those who have been treated for and live with blood cancers, and our survivorship program was established to help patients maintain their best quality of life after receiving treatment.
- We are the only National Marrow Donor Program collection site in Kansas.
- Our myelodysplastic syndrome program is recognized by the Myelodysplastic Syndromes Foundation as an MDS Center of Excellence.
