Jianghua He, PhD

I joined the Department of Biostatistics and Data Science (formerly Department of Biostatistics) of KUMC in 2007 after graduation from the Department of Statistics of Florida State University with PhD in Statistics. My role includes collaborative research in various medical and public health research fields, teaching, methodologic research, as well as intramural and extramural services. I have been a member of the American Statistical Association since 2008. I am also a member of KU Cancer Center.

My primary role at KUMC is a collaborator who provides expertise in statistics/biostatistics for researchers in medicine or public health fields. My major collaborative research fields include nursing research for the National Database of Nursing Quality Indicator (NDNQI) sponsored the by the American Nurses Association (20% efforts since 2008, 30% since 2012), patient safety research for the Operational Analytics & Reporting, Office of Informatics and Analytics, Veterans Health Administration (VHA) (40% efforts since 2009; 20% efforts in 2011-2012), and neurology (15% on a multi-site clinical trials since 2008). I am currently 35% funded on a StatNet grant specifically supporting a statistician working on cystic fibrosis-related research. My research about Bayesian dynamic survival models deals with a common yet often overlooked issue, the non-proportional hazards situations in survival analysis. I became interested in innovative application of survival models in Epidemiology. I also developed independent research abilities in subject matter fields through collaborative research. My research experience with NDNQI and VHA helped me build a strong knowledge base in health care. I truly believe that understanding of subject matter fields will help me identify interesting and application-oriented methodological research topics.
