The University of Kansas Cancer Center has joined the Oncology Research Information Exchange Network (ORIEN), a national initiative promoting collaboration to drive research and discovery of personalized treatments for cancer. Launched in 2014, it is the largest and longest-running academic cancer research consortium of its kind in the United States. ORIEN is comprised of 18 cancer centers across the U.S.

ORIEN is led by Aster Insights, a bioinformatics company focused on advancing cancer therapies. ORIEN members participate in the Total Cancer Care protocol, the largest lifetime-consented patient research program in oncology, utilizing clinical and genomic data to support patient care, research and discovery. To date, more than 380,000 patients representing dozens of different types of cancer have enrolled in the Total Cancer Care study.
