About Me
Dr. Mayo is Founding Chair and Professor of the Department of Biostatistics & Data Science and Associate Director for Shared Resources for The University of Kansas Cancer Center. Since his arrival he has been focused on creating and maintaining a sustainable environment of quantitative scientists in biostatistics, informatics and data science that enhances and supports the education, research and service missions of the University of Kansas Medical Center; while establishing innovative graduate programs in biostatistics, applied statistics, analytics and data science. Dr. Mayo received his Ph.D. in Applied Statistics from the University of Alabama in 1995. He also received a BA and MA in Statistics from the University of Missouri and a MBA from Baker University. In 2002 Dr. Mayo was awarded a five-year $1.4 million grant from NCI to enhance the biostatistics and infrastructure within the Kansas Masonic Cancer Research Institute. Dr. Mayo created the Department of Biostatistics & Data Science in 2007 and has been Associate Director for Shared Resources within KUCC since 2008. Dr. Mayo has also been heavily involved in the institutions General Clinical Research Center and Clinical Translational Science Award. Prior to his arrival at KUMC he was a faculty member at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and a member of their Cancer Center. To date Dr. Mayo has aided in the attainment of over $225 million in extramural support and authored or co-authored over 230 peer-reviewed manuscripts.
