The University of Kansas Cancer Center recently announced the appointment of two of its leaders as the new chair and vice-chair for the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC) Executive Committee. Kelsey Larson, MD, accepted the role of our NAPBC Chair. Dr. Larson is currently the President of the American College of Surgeons, Kansas Chapter and Breast Surgical Oncology Fellowship Program Director. Anne O’Dea, MD, accepted the role of Vice-Chair. Dr. O’Dea currently serves as the Medical Director of the Breast Cancer Survivorship Program and Breast Medical Oncology Medical Director of Breast Cancer Clinical Research Program Services. The NAPBC Executive Committee is a multidisciplinary committee that provides clinical leadership and facilitates quality improvement across the breast cancer care continuum.

The NAPBC is a consortium of professional organizations dedicated to the improvement of the quality of care and monitoring of outcomes of patients with diseases of the breast. This mission is pursued through standard-setting, scientific validation and patient and professional education. Its board membership includes professionals from 20 national organizations that reflect the full spectrum of breast care. The cancer center is the only center in the region to be designated by the National Cancer Institute, NAPBC and Commission on Cancer. Accreditation by the NAPBC is only given to those centers that have voluntarily committed to provide the highest level of quality breast care and that undergo a rigorous evaluation process and review of their performance. These standards include proficiency in the areas of: center leadership, clinical management, research, community outreach, professional education and quality improvement. KU Cancer Center has fellowship-trained subspecialists in every area of treatment all within its own institution, underscoring its commitment to the highest level of multidisciplinary breast cancer care.
