On June 10, 2026, the Kansas Masonic Foundation and Kansas Masons hosted an event to honor Roy Jensen, MD, for his extraordinary impact on cancer research and care.

As vice chancellor and director of The University of Kansas Cancer Center, Dr. Jensen played a pivotal role in securing National Cancer Institute (NCI) comprehensive designation, a milestone that expanded access to leading-edge research and clinical trials for patients across Kansas and beyond. The event recognized not only that achievement, but the lasting difference his work has made for people throughout the region.

The evening also marked the formal announcement of the Distinguished Masonic Professorship, established by the Kansas Masonic Foundation in Dr. Jensen’s honor. The professorship will help attract and support top researchers, continuing the momentum he helped build.

“Dr. Jensen's leadership has had a profound impact on cancer research and care in Kansas,” said Bob Shively, executive director of the Kansas Masonic Foundation. “Through his vision and dedication, The University of Kansas Cancer Center has become a nationally recognized leader, bringing world-class treatment, innovative research and new hope to patients and families across our region.”

The Kansas Masonic Foundation has been a partner of the cancer center since 1974, contributing tens of millions of dollars over the years. Their support helped fund a $5 million endowment for the Masonic Cancer Alliance, free genetic counseling services, a pledge toward the new cancer facility and more.

Dr. Jensen shared his gratitude for the recognition and for the longstanding partnership that has helped advance the cancer center’s mission.

“I’m deeply honored by this recognition,” Dr. Jensen said. “What we’ve accomplished has always been a team effort, supported by an incredible community of partners. I’m especially grateful to the Kansas Masonic Foundation for their commitment over so many years.”
