Sufi Thomas, PhD, has been appointed the Frank B. Tyler Endowed Professor in Cancer Research. The appointment was made by Roy Jensen, MD, vice chancellor and director of The University of Kansas Cancer Center.
Dr. Thomas serves as associate director for Basic Science at The University of Kansas Cancer Center and is a nationally recognized basic science researcher. Her work has significantly advanced our understanding of the tumor microenvironment in head and neck cancers, exploring how interactions between tumor cells and surrounding tissues influence cancer progression and therapeutic response. In addition, Dr. Thomas leads important survivorship research focused on the biology of radiation‑induced fibrosis and the development of preventive strategies to improve long‑term quality of life for cancer survivors.
“Dr. Thomas is an exceptional scientist whose work is shaping the future of head and neck cancer research,” said Dr. Jensen. “Her discoveries are advancing our understanding of the tumor microenvironment and helping us develop better strategies to support survivors long after treatment ends. This endowed professorship recognizes both her remarkable contributions and the promise of her ongoing work.”
The Frank B. Tyler Endowed Professorship in Cancer Research was established to support innovative scientific discovery and accelerate progress toward more effective cancer prevention, diagnosis and treatment.
