Before sunrise on January 16, I joined the J.E. Dunn construction team at the site of our new cancer facility to take an important step forward. At about 4:30 a.m., crews began pouring the concrete that will become the first floor of the building - 360 cubic yards in total, covering 17,160 square feet. By early afternoon, around 1:30 p.m., the work was complete.
This is an important milestone. For months, the focus has been on everything happening below ground, including planning, preparation and the critical work that no one sees.
It’s exciting to see the project take shape. This facility will eventually support the spaces where patients receive care, where researchers make new discoveries and where families find comfort and hope.
From the crews working through the early morning hours to the teams coordinating every detail behind the scenes, I am grateful to everyone who has helped make this moment happen. Their hard work keeps this project moving forward.
With the foundation now in place, we can start building upward. It’s a big moment, and there’s much more to come.
