Hematologic Malignancies & Cellular Therapy for Your Patients

The University of Kansas Cancer Center hematologic malignancies and cellular therapies (HMCT) program provides patients with innovative and lifesaving treatments, including blood and marrow transplants and cellular and gene therapies for blood cancers and disorders. It is part of the region’s only National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center, 1 of fewer than 60 nationwide, and is the region’s largest blood and marrow transplant and cellular therapeutics program.

Our HMCT program is one of the largest programs in the country and includes:

  • One of the nation’s largest acute leukemia programs.
  • The region’s first program accredited by the Foundation for Accreditation of Cellular Therapy
  • One of the first cancer centers in the nation to offer gene therapy treatments for sickle cell disease.
  • All FDA-approved CAR T-cell therapies available for all patients.
  • More than 5,700 blood and marrow transplants performed since 1977.

Our highly trained specialists perform a variety of HMCT procedures, determined by each patient’s diagnosis, disease state, overall health and age. Your patients will receive the latest evidence-based therapies that provide the greatest opportunity for positive outcomes.

Treating blood cancers and blood disorders

  • If your patient needs leukemia care, we are here to help. Our HMCT program includes one of the nation’s largest acute leukemia programs with a comprehensive clinical research program and more opportunities to participate in clinical trials. 30 to 40% of leukemia patients at The University of Kansas Cancer Center are in clinical trials. Our nationally recognized, board-certified medical oncologists lead care teams to customize treatment plans for each patient.

To support physicians in referring patients for specialty care earlier, experts at The University of Kansas Cancer Center provide a 24/7 acute leukemia hotline to offer consultations and facilitate transfer.

  • Our experts provide advanced treatment of Hodgkin and non-Hodgkin lymphomas and were among the first in the world to treat lymphoma with CAR T-cell therapies and bispecific antibodies. Our dedicated lymphoma care team collaborates on treatment with referring physicians, ensuring full continuity of care for your patients. As part of an academic medical center, our physicians are involved in research and clinical trials, providing patients with the opportunity to participate in clinical trials.

  • The University of Kansas Cancer Center includes a team of specialists, focused solely on the treatment and advanced therapeutics for myeloma, a relatively uncommon cancer. Our team was among the first in the world to treat multiple myeloma with CAR T-cell therapies and bispecific antibodies. As part of an academic medical center, your patients will have access to clinical trials that aren’t available elsewhere in the region.

  • At the University of Kansas Cancer Center, our team of dedicated hematologist oncologists are pioneers in the study of therapeutics for myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), myeloproliferative disorder (MPD) and myeloid lymphoid neoplasms (MPN). The cancer center’s MPN program is recognized as a center of excellence by the MPN Education Foundation – the only one in the region. Access to top-of-the-line diagnostics provides your patients with the advantage of early identification, allowing treatment to begin quickly. Patients at the cancer center have more opportunities to participate in clinical trials for groundbreaking therapeutics that are in development.

Your patients are our patients

While receiving cancer treatments, your patients are our patients, too. The University of Kansas Cancer Center’s disease-dedicated cancer specialists work closely with you and your patients to develop a comprehensive treatment plan tailored to meet their individual needs, because we understand that no 2 people experience cancer the same.
