Remembering R. Scott Hawley

R. Scott Hawley, PhD, a distinguished investigator at the Stowers Institute for Medical Research and member of The University of Kansas Cancer Center, passed away on January 31, 2025. 

A pioneer in the field of meiosis, Dr. Hawley dedicated more than two decades to advancing our understanding of genetic inheritance. His groundbreaking research on chromosome behavior and crossover interference shaped the foundation of modern reproductive biology. 

Dr. Hawley was a passionate mentor and educator. He played a key role in founding the Stowers Graduate School and inspired countless students with his curiosity, generosity and love of discovery. He will be deeply missed by colleagues across the cancer center consortium and the broader scientific community.
